The gender wage gap has long been an issue of importance for feminists, and one that consistently finds itself on the UN and government agendas. Despite this, there is a persistent idea among many in mainstream society (mostly men, and some women) that the gender wage gap is simply a myth, that women are paid less on average because of the specific choices that women make in their careers. Everything, they claim, from the industry a woman chooses to establish herself in, to the hours she chooses to work, to her decision to take time off to spend with her children, and so on, leads to lower pay, for reasons, they confidently assure us, that have nothing at all to do with sexism. City of Vancouver: “ Over the past five months, the City of Vancouver has taken repeated steps to ensure the safety of the Ming Sun Building at 437-441 Powell Street. Unfortunately, the owners have refused to provide a plan to make the urgent repairs required. The Ming Sun Benevolent Society themselves informed the City on November 14 that the building is beyond repair and should be demolished.”

As disclosed at our Media Conference on Dec 6, 2013, it has been the City of Vancouver who has not responded in a timely manner. The MSBS has always met with city reps in good faith, and met on a timely basis.

Cell phone surveillanceThis article addresses the police use of new technologies to monitor and track the movements of people using cell phones or smart phones.  It highlights the vulnerabilities of such phones, especially for those that may be subject to surveillance (such as warriors).  Although the article does not go into other techniques, it is well known that such devices can also be turned into active listening devices even when turned off (by police or intelligence agencies secretly downloading “spyware” onto your phone, for example).

Disrupting settler society, and avoiding fatalism, requires a two-fold recognition: of settler colonialism and Indigenous resurgence.

Destroying settler society, and allowing the rise of ethical relations, requires a two-fold active response: destroy the material and discursive foundations of settler colonialism and actively engage with Indigenous resurgence.

At times and in spaces, the destruction and active engagement are oneinthesame.
